A vintage, possibly antique pair of what is believed to be early polymer or bakelite sash or dress buckles with paisley and flower pattern (we had initially thought these were jet). Although the buckles appear to be black in colour in the photographs, they are in fact a very dark navy.
The buckles when closed measure approximately 2.875in end to end and just under 1.75in at its widest. The back is inset with brass metal fittings which although slightly out of kilter appear to be in working order. The paisley decoration has worn in places but other than this, the buckles are structurally sound.
Believed to date from the late nineteenth century or early twentieth century in age and remarkable that these have survived.
