An antique framed and glazed handcoloured engraving from the art work of Henry William Bunbury (of Tristram Shandy fame - 1750 to 1811 - and also known as Geoffrey Gambado Esq) entitled Doctor Casfrock FRSTP 2 Inventor of the Noble Puzzle of Tumble Down Horses. The style of the engravings is believed to be what is known as stipple engraving.
The frame measures approximately 15in by 13in and the visible engraving just under 9.5in by 7.5in and is structurally sound. The engraving some age related discoloration as you might expect. This engraving formed part of a collection of 5 of the engravings in the Bunbury series.
On the back of this framed engraving is sellotaped the original 1977 receipt for the collection. On the back of the same engraving is a copy newspaper cutting which is only just about legible and seems to be about Shandy Hall.
Note: Bunbury was the son of Sir William Bunbury of Mildenhall and, after completing studies at Cambridge, he began to draw his caricatures, rising to become one the greatest satirical artists of his day.
