A vintage/retro Japanese reproduction inro with green onyx netsuke in the form of a monkey or bear and plain round ojime bead.
We are unsure of the composition of the inro and ojime. We believe that the inro is made of bone but we are not entirely certain. It is quite conceivable that the inro is made of French or faux ivory, but if so, it is beautifully done. One side of the inro is decorated, scraffito style, with an erotic depiction, and the other side is decorated with fish and crab.
The inro is structurally sound but a little stiff when opening the compartments.
The inro consists of 4 compartments, including the lid, and the whole inro measures just over 3in by about 2.325in. The netsuke measures approximately 1.5in top to bottom, and the ojime, just over 0.5in in diameter. Exact age unknown, but believed to have some age, possibly around the middle of last century to the 1970s.
