Heavy vintage cold painted cast metal (possibly spelter) desktop desk weight in the form of a tiger, mounted on a plinth. Please note that the main colour of the tiger is a mustard colour, rather than a yellow colour.
The plinth is believed to be made of alabaster has it does not feel as cold as marble might, although we can’t be certain of this. There is some form of substance (plaster or chalk possibly) attached to the underside of the plinth which is uneven and which causes the desk weight to wobble. Perhaps this might be made level, should a buyer wish to try this. It is possible that this item was attached to another item at some earlier stage, but again we cannot be certain.
The deskweight has been cleaned but, as we did not wish to compromise the cold painting, it might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. There are a few small areas of minor bruising to the plinth, and some small loss to the cold painting, which we have tried to show in the photographs but with limited success. The desk weight is otherwise structurally sound.
The base of the desk weight measures just under 4.25in by about 3.375in at its longest and widest, and the tiger measures approximately 5.5in from nose to tip of tail. The deskweight stands about 3in high to the tip of the topmost ear and weighs around 487g. Exact age unknown but probably dates from the earlier part of last century.
