A heavy vintage, crocodile patterned brass tea caddy and cover with finial to the lid in the shape of a Cornish pixie. Inside the caddy is lined with metal, probably zinc.
Although the caddy and lid are structurally sound, we have been unable to firmly close the lid flush to the rim of the caddy and we can’t work out why (please see photographs). There are a few minor dinks here and there commensurate with age and use. This is reflected in the price. The caddy has been lightly cleaned in order to retain what patina there is, but might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning.
The caddy measures just over 4in but just under 4.125in at the base and stands just over 5.5in tall to the top of the lid (including the brass supports on the base and taking into account the slight problem with closure referred to above). In all, and including the pixie finial on the lid, etc, the caddy stands just under 8in tall. Exact age unknown but probably dates from the first part of last century. Weighs just under 750g.
