As Found. A pair of vintage Italian grey marbled alabaster bookends in the form of perched owls.
There are some condition elements to this item: neither owl has retained its eye insets (which might have been glass), there are some nibbles here and there, most noticeably to the ears, and the tip of the tail of one of the owls has missing, together with some further dinks to his beak. We have tried to show this in the photographs but grey alabaster is quite difficult to photograph. This is reflected in the price. One of the owls is slightly wobbly on its base, but this bookend has a makers label attached to the base so that might be part of the reason. The label on the other owl was once present but is now missing. The bookends are however structurally sound and together weigh over 1.1kg.
Both owls stand just over 6in tall, with one of the owls being slightly taller than the other.
Exact age unknown but probably dates from the 1930s through to the middle of last century.
