A plated metal vesta in the shape of a cello.
The vesta has no hallmarks or makers marks but has no magnetic register so it is difficult to say whether it is plated or unmarked silver (we have not chemically tested it for obvious reasons). We have therefore priced the vesta, and are describing it, as plated metal.
The base of the cello has a hinged flap as a striker and which reveals the aperture within which matches could be stored (no matches are supplied).
This vesta is believed to be a later copy of a nineteenth century original.
Apart from a very small amount of tarnishing, the vesta is structurally sound.
The vesta measures approximately 2.5in top to bottom and just under 1in across at its widest. It measures just under 0.5in deep. Exact age unknown. Weighs about 20g.
