Heavy vintage embossed brass covered wooden trunk shaped tea caddy with additional brass strap work to the lid and body and engraved TEA plaque to the front.
The caddy sits on four brass coloured metal supports. The strap work also has applied copper detail. Inside the caddy, the base is lined with lead or zinc, and the lid is attached to the base by means of a brass retainer (which bears the words Made in England) to the side and what appear to be fairly stout hinges at the back.
The caddy has been lightly cleaned only (in order to retain what patina there is) and might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. The brass strapwork is lifting a little in a few places but is intact. Structurally sound.
The caddy measures approximately 6in by 3.75in and stands about 3.75in high, including the supports, to the top of the slightly domed lid. Exact age unknown but believed to date from the first, possibly earlier, part of last century. Weighs just over 560g.
