An antique Victorian or Edwardian vesta with no visible markers marks or hallmarks, but believed to be silver plated.
The Vesta bears the faint imprint of a Registered Number which appears to be 274173 (circa 1896) although the numbering is rather rubbed. We have tried to show this in the photographs with limited success.
The vesta is embossed with floral and foliate detail and has a vacant heart shaped cartouche to the front and back. The striker is to the base of the vesta.
The lid and hinge are in working order and there is an integral loop to the lid. The exterior of the vesta has been cleaned, but we have left the inside as is in order to show the patina. There are a few small dinks where the main body meets the lid which we have tried to show in the photographs.
The vesta measures approximately 1.75in (not including the loop) by just under 1.25in and about 0.25in deep. Structurally sound. Weighs about 22.5g. Exact age unknown but probably late nineteeth century, or early twentieth century, in age.
