A vintage, possibly antique, EPNS hot water jug with an ebony or ebonised handle. The base is stamped EPNS and there is what we believe are makers marks which are badly rubbed and which we have been unable to decipher.
The handle wobbles slightly but appears sound. The lid gaps somewhat (please see photographs), but despite this, the jug is a good pourer. The jug has also been tested for leaks.
There is some deterioration in the plate which we have tried to show in the photographs. Other than this, the jug is structurally sound.
The jug stands approximately 6.5in high to the top of the finial on the lid. Weighs just over 430g. Exact age unknown but probably dates from the first part of last century.
