A vintage engraved wall hanging engraved mother of pearl or nacre shell fitted with metal bracket and loop.
The obverse of the shell is carved to depict a lady in what looks like traditional peasant dress holding what might be a net, with sea and boats in the background (we’re not at all sure, although the detail is nicely carved). The carving is of raised design, not quite cameo, and is a little difficult to show in the photographs.
There is some oxidisation to the metal bracket but otherwise the shell and bracket are structurally sound.
The shell measures approximately 4.125in by about 4.125in across and down. Exact area of origin and age unknown but probably Far Eastern or Australasian in origin and believed to be pre-1947.
