A vintage engine turned hallmarked English silver and wood box with the hallmark being for Birmingham 1937 and the silver smiths’ initials AD, possibly for Alfred Deeley.
This box belonged to Jane’s grandparents and she remembers it well.
There are a number of small dinks, a small split near the hinge and the lid is slightly out of kilter, all of which we have tried to show in the photographs, but otherwise the box is structurally sound. The price asked reflects the condition. The hallmark is rubbed but decipherable. The box has been cleaned but possibly might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning.
The box measures just under 5.5in by about 3.375in at the base and stands about 1.5in high to the top of the lid. Weighs approximately 278g.
