A relatively heavy vintage cast brass nutcracker in the form of a crocodile or alligator (probably the former) whose tail acts as a lever to open its jaws. The jaws themselves are serrated to simulate teeth on upper and lower jaws.
There is no makers mark, but the underside of the crocodile is merely stamped England.
Unfortunately, prior to acquiring it, this item had been polished at some stage, leaving no patina to speak off. We’ve therefore cleaned the item but it might benefit from further cleaning.
The nutcracker measures approximately 6.75in from tip of tail to nose and is relatively heavy at just over 200g. Exact age unknown but probably dates from the first, or earlier, part of last century.
