A good quality antique William Hutton plated boat shaped fruit bowl or bread basket with pierced sides and with handles at either end.
The base bears the full William Hutton silver plate mark WH&SBP MP over A (possibly for the end of the nineteenth century, possibly earlier, possibly a little later). William Hutton (in various guises) operated from Birmingham (1800 to 1832) and Sheffield (1832 to 1930 when the company was taken over by James Dixon).
The bowl has been cleaned, but might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. We believe that one side of the bowl may be very slightly out of kilter but this would not show up in the photographs as it is very very slight. There is a small amount of tarnishing, barely noticeable, and some light surface scratching commensurate with use and age, which we have tried to show in the photographs.
The bowl measures just under 12in by just over 7in at its longest and widest at the rim and stands about 3.5in high at its highest part. Weighs nearly 570g.
