A vintage desktop heavy cast brass (or bronze) desk weight / censer in the form of a sacred cow.
On the back, there is an aperture and we believe that something, which might have formed a cover, is missing. We may be wrong.
In addition, when we acquired this item, it had obviously been polished quite enthusiastically and most of the patina had been removed. We have therefore given the cow only light cleaning to the upper visible parts, but if you have a look at the underside of the censer on the hooves, you can see evidence of the patina that did exist at some stage.
Structurally sound though slightly wobbly when placed on a flat surface and a little head heavy (more evidence for our belief that there is a cover to the aperture on the beast’s back which might have added a little more weight). There are a few age spots here and there which we have tried to show in the photographs.
The weight stands approximately 4.25in high to the top of the beast’s shoulders and measures just under 6.5in across from the tail to the nose. Exact age unknown but possibly dates the earlier part of last century, or even before. Weighs around 930g. Probably Indian / Asian in origin.
