A smallish vintage oriental cloisonne shallow dish with floral detail (chrysanthemum and other flowers) against a black ground with blue enamelled underside.
The underside of the dish is detailed with a floral and foliate pattern where the metal has been allowed to show through (the metal is believed to be copper). There is some uneveness to the enamelling on the underside at the centre which we think might have occurred at the time of manufacture (please see photographs).
There is a little loss to the cloisonne on the upper side of the dish which has proved a little difficult to show in the photographs. Other than this, the cloisonne is on the whole intact on the upper part, apart from some pinhole pitting (as is usual). To our mind, the dish seems to be slightly out of kilter, but this may have occurred, too, at the time of manufacture.
The dish measures approximately 3.75in in diameter at the outer rim, and is about 0.5in in depth. Weighs just under 50g. Exact age unknown but believed to date from the first part of last century.
