A small vintage figural card holder (originally intended for use as a letter rack or stand, see below) with a horse racing theme in the form of a horse and jockey taking a fence.
The front of the rack towards the bottom is inscribed with the word LETTERS. Letters from earlier periods were rather small (and very often did not have envelopes but were merely folded over). The rack however nowadays would make a lovely business card holder for the right size cards.
The rack has been cleaned, but would probably benefit from further cleaning, depending on the buyer’s taste.
The rack stands approximately 1.75in high at the back to the top of the uppermost fence bar and just under 2.25in at the front to the top of the jockey’s hat. It measures just over 3.75in across at its widest and is just under 1in deep at the base. Exact age unknown but certainly dates from the first part of last century.
