An antique tall/large copper lizard patten jug by Joseph Sankey and Son (c1890 to 1932 before it was taken over by GKN). The base bears the Neptune impression and also either the figure 9 or the figure 6 (probably 6).
The jug has been cleaned lightly in order to retain some patina, but might benefit from further, more expert cleaning. Although structurally sound, there are a number of age and use related dinks. In addition, part of the base has at some stage been soldered and pinned, and if you look into the inside of the jug into the light, you will see that there is probably some more soldering work to do. The base is also dinked and bowed slightly so that the jug wobbles when placed on a flat surface. However it is a striking item, and the price asked reflects these issues.
The jug stands just under 13.5in to the tip of the spout, about 13.5in to the top of the handle and approximately 12.5in to the lowest part of the rim. The base of the jug measures approximately 7in in diameter. Exact age is unknown but probably dates from the earlier part of last century.
