A small vintage or antique novelty brass box in the form of an antique bed pan with Isle of Man insignia to the hinged lid and long handle. The lid of the box also has pierced holes around its circumference. We are not sure to what use this item was put. Conceivably, it could have been a desk tidy, a censer, a pounce pot etc, which is why we have decided to call it a box.
The box has been lightly cleaned in order to retain what patina there is, but it may require further, more expert, cleaning (depending on taste). There are a number of small dinks here and there in various places, which we have tried to show in the photographs. Most notably the handle is slightly bent, and the rim of the base is also dinked in places. The hinge on the lid is intact, but does not open fully (perhaps it was never intended to) and again we have shown this in the photographs.
The box measures, in total, just over 6.25in from the tip of the handle to the furthest part of the box. The top of the box itself measures just under 3in in diameter, as does the base, and the box element itself is about 1.5in deep from the base to the top of the slightly domed lid. Exact age unknown but possibly dates from the earlier part of last century.
