A vintage, possibly antique, Mauchlineware (transfer printed) wooden box and cover depicting a clifftop view, with people, in what looks like Edwardian dress, and a dog, over the words Shanklin from the Cliff (Shanklin, Isle of Wight).
The box has been cleaned lightly to retain what patina there is and is structurally sound, although there are a few small dinks commensurate with age and use. The underside of the box is lined with green paper, and this has worn slightly.
The box measures approximately 3.25in by about 2.25in at the base and stands just under 1.5in high to the top of the lid. The internal measurements of the box at the rim are approximately 2.75in by just under 1.75in and in depth, approximately 1in (excluding the cover). Exact age unknown but probably dates from the earlier part of last century.
