An antique Mother of Pearl handled silver bladed pen knife and inset blind escutcheon. The main body (below the MOP) is believed to the steel. The blade is sterling silver, hallmarked for Sheffield 1885 and the silversmith is believed to be Thomas Marples.
The MOP is on the whole intact. However there is what looks like a narrow serrated overlap towards the top of the escutcheon which may have been intentional or which may be evidence of a later repair to the MOP. Whichever it is, in our view, it doesn't detract from the whole.
Please note that it is our policy not to sharpen blades on our knives etc and therefore the existing cutting function is not guaranteed. The knife might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. Otherwise, it is structurally sound.
The penknife, when closed, measures just under 3.5in long and about 0.5in at its widest. The open knife measures 6.125in top to tip. Weighs just over 31g.
