A large vintage Scottish kilt or shawl pin with central amethyst coloured inset.
The main body of the pin is gilded metal, with the central inset probably being made of paste, rather than a semi-precious stone. It is strong in construction and the pin has retained most of its spring.
The gilding to the metal is wearing in quite a few places and we have tried to show this in the photographs. There is however still evidence of the original gilding. Otherwise the pin appears to be structurally sound.
It measures just under 4.5in across, including the catch. Exact age unknown but probably dates from the first part of last century. Weighs around 10g.
