An antique framed and glazed hand coloured engraving from the art work of Henry William Bunbury (of Tristram Shandy fame - 1750 to 1811 - and also known as Geoffrey Gambado Esq) entitled Tricks upon Travellers. The style of the engravings is believed to be what is known as stipple engraving.
The frame measures approximately 15in by 13in and the visible engraving just under 9.5in by about 7.5in and is structurally sound although there are some minor nibbles and chips and discolouration to the gilding here and there. The engraving shows some age related discolouration as you might expect.
This engraving formed part of a collection of 5 of the engravings in the Bunbury series.
Note: Bunbury was the son of Sir William Bunbury of Mildenhall and, after completing studies at Cambridge, he began to draw his caricatures, rising to become on the greatest satirical artists of his day.
