A vintage, believed to be rare, enamelled and polished metal (probably steel) desktop cigar or cheroot cutter.

The cutter is beautifully made with detailed cross hatching and other markings, including a central red and gilt enamelled plaque bearing the words LA TROPICAL DELUXE. Impressed towards the cutting end is the word Solingen (a German city known as The City of Blades because of its manufacture of quality swords, knives, scissors etc) and on the other side the letters DBGM. Unfortunately, we could find no other makers mark, nor another cutter with this patterning. We did find a similar Solingen DGBM enamelled metal cutter and that had the makers mark Pfeilring. We are not certain that this the manufacturer of the cutter on sale here.

The opposite end of the cigar cutter is rounded with a notch on one side, and we have been advised that this is for prying open wooden cigar boxes, and the notch for removing the nail.

The cutter has been lightly cleaned only, in order to preserve the enamelling, but might benefit from a further, more expert, cleaning. There is some slight bubbling to the metal which we have tried to show in the photographs.

The cutter measures approximately 5.75in in length and is just over 0.625in in width along the main body. Weighs just over 100g and believed to date from the 1950s or 1960s.
