A vintage or antique heavy cast bronze deskweight or paperweight in the form of a deer mounted on a marble plinth. The underside of the plinth is covered with green baize.
The deskweight has been lightly cleaned only, in order not to disturb the patina, but might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. Although care must be taken when lifting this item (i.e. always lift figures such as these via the base, and not the surmount for obvious reasons), the surmount is very slightly wobbly in its mount. There is evidence of either damage to or a manufacturing fault in the back left hoof of the deer, which we have tried to show in the photographs. The marble plinth has a few very minor nibbles, commensurate with age and use. Otherwise, the deskweight is structurally sound.
The deer measures approximately 3.125in across from the tip of its tail to its snout. The marble plinth base measures approximately 4in by about 2.25in. Together, the plinth and surmount stand just over 4.125in high, to the tip of the deer’s uppermost antler. Weighs just under 440g. Exact age unknown but probably dates from the earlier part of last century.
