An antique nineteenth century silver plated chamberstick, together with a snuffer.
The chamberstick does bear makers marks but unfortunately these are on the whole illegible. The snuffer might not be the original as it has no hallmarks and is a different design to the chamberstick which has a piecrust rim and other embellishments. In addition, there is an apperture beneath the central candlestick through which a different type of snuffer and/or wick cutter might have been slotted at some stage, although the handle does have a hole for a more standard snuffer to be slotted into it.
The chamberstick and snuffer have been cleaned and on the whole the silver plate is remarkably intact, bar a few surface scratches, commensurate with age and use. There is however evidence of some soldering to the chamberstick around the handle (please see photographs). The chamberstick and snuffer together weigh just over 400g.
The chamberstick measures approximately 5.75in in diameter, excluding the handle (about 6.75in across including the handle) and the snuffer stands approximately 3.125in to the top of the acorn shaped finial. Exact age unknown but believed to be Victorian in age, probably from the mid nineteenth century onwards.
