A vintage, possibly antique, heavy and heavily embossed bronze or brass wood lined box with hinged lid and standing on four integral supports. The sides and lid of the box appear to depict various medieval or ethnographic scenes (see photographs).

We have stated brass or bronze as this is a very heavy box for its size and type. The box has therefore been lightly cleaned only in order to retain what patina there was (unfortunately this box appears to have been cleaned many times therefore removing a lot of what patina there might have been).

Although the box itself is sturdy and appears structurally sound, there is some gapping at the base which we have tried to shop in the photographs. This might be due to the shrinkage of the wood lining, or the slight warping of the metal outer base. The screw to the right hand side of the lid (when facing the box) stands proud and may be a later replacement. However the lid is structurally sound.

The box measures approximately 5.125in by about 4.25in at the base, and just over 2.75in high to the top of the lid (and including the integral supports). There are no makers marks, and the exact age of the box is unknown but probably dates from the earlier part of last century, or earlier. Weighs just over 1kg.
