A vintage, possibly antique, Assyrian design brass box with repousse and engraved decoration, and a hinged lid. It is believed that the box may have been a snuff or tobacco box. The lid of the box is decorated with figures, possibly in battle, surrounded by a sort of ribbon decoration. The sides are engraved with a design we’ve not seen before, and the base is engraved with what looks like a female figure with a crown.
The box has been lightly cleaned only in order to retain what patina there is and is structurally sound. There are however age spots and some minor dinks, commensurate with age and use.
The box measures approximately 3.5in by about 2in and is just over 1in deep to the top of its slightly domed lid. Exact age is unknown but probably dates from the first, or earlier, part of last century. Possibly Eastern or Asian in origin.
