A vintage, possibly antique, relatively heavy pewter charger or platter with central embossed emblem of a Crown over a shield surrounded by a chain with Maltese Cross dangling, and flanked by dolphins either side, with the sea below. We have as yet been unable to identify this emblem. In addition, on the back of the platter, there are some impressed markings, but too indistinct for us to identify, which may or may not be makers marks. We have tried to show these in the photographs with limited success.
NOTE: As with most vintage pewter, lead may have formed part of the composition (a practice not proscribed until 1974) and it is therefore not now considered suitable for food storage or use with food.
The platter has been lightly cleaned only and might benefit from further, more expert cleaning, depending on buyers preference. The platter sits flush when placed on a flat and stable surface.
The platter measures just over 9in in diameter at its widest parts and is about 0.75in deep. Exact age and area of origin are unknown. Weighs around 580g.
