A vintage Art Nouveau design heavy bronzed metal trinket box with figural hinged lid with a design of a sleeping young female on the top. We are unsure of the composition of the metal, but it could be pewter, or a base metal.

There is an impressed mark on the underside of the lid, but we have been unable to decipher this and it has proved a little difficult to show clearly in the photographs. The lid lifts to reveal a metal lined compartment.

The box has been cleaned, but might benefit from further more expert cleaning. The cleaning has revealed that the bronzing of the metal is wearing in some places (please see photographs) but on the whole, the box is structurally sound. Inside the box, however, the metal lined base might benefit from resoldering. There is a mark on the base of the box and we are not certain whether is evidence of soldering. It feels uneven to touch (but again, please see photographs).

The box stands approximately 6in tall to the top of the girl’s head on the lid. It measures just under 6.5in across at its widest part. Inside the box, the rim measures just under 4in in diameter and the aperture is approximately 2.625in deep. On the whole, it is a striking item. Exact age unknown but believed to date from the first, or earlier, part of last century. Weighs nearly 1.4kg.
