A small antique buttonhook with English silver handle. In modern times, the buttonhook could make a useful Engagement, pre-Wedding or Wedding present to assist in fastening those fiddly little buttons on Wedding Dresses or gloves.
Unfortunately the hallmark on the handle is rather small and indistinct, but we think it might be marked for Birmingham 1918. However, we are not absolutely sure about this. We have been unable to identify any makers mark. We believe that this buttonhook was probably used to fasten the buttons on gloves.
The shaft is impressed with the words STEEL ENGLISH MADE and is subject to some oxidisation which we have tried, with limited success, to show in the photographs. However, the buttonhook appears to be otherwise structurally sound.
The buttonhook measures just under 5.5in in length and given its size, is a remarkable survivor! Weighs just under 16g.
