An antique First World War era hallmarked English silver capstan shaped box which has a lined base, and comes with loose fitting pincushion cover.
The hallmark is for Birmingham 1916 with the makers mark for S Blanckensee and Son Ltd.
The base box has been cleaned but might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. In addition, there are a few small dinks to the silver and a small amount of tarnishing which we have been unable to remove, and the lining is showing signs of wear. Otherwise the base and cover are structurally sound. The pincushion cover appears to be of some form of shantung, but we’re not certain about this.
The base and pincushion cover together stand just under 3in high to the top of the pincushion, and the base of the capstan shaped box measures just under 4.75in in diameter, with the outer rim measuring approximately 3.625in in diameter. Together, they weigh just over 160g.
