A vintage wood and brass wall hanging letter or leaflet rack with three brass compartments. It is possible that the rack could be used as a newspaper rack, but we haven’t tried this out. Each compartment has engraved foliate detail in the Art Nouveau style. At the top of the letter rack are two hasps to enable wall fixing (no screws are provided).
Structurally sound, the letter rack has been lightly cleaned in order to show off the detail of the engraving, but it might benefit from further, more expert, cleaning. Although intact, close inspection of the upper and lower sections of the rack makes us think that possibly it is time that the adhesive keeping the rack together could be renewed. However, as mentioned above, to our mind, the rack is stable enough probably to bear the weight of letters or leaflets.
The whole letter rack measures just over 13in (excluding the metal fixings) top to bottom at its longest, and just over 7.75in across. Each compartment measures just under 6in by3.75in and just over 1in deep (with the bottom compartment being slightly more than in depth). Exact age unknown but believed to date from the first part of last century. Weighs over 800g.
